The drawing shows Cok Rai applying make-up: the white dot between his eyebrows, called the cundaang symbolizes the "third eye" of insight and penetrating concentration. This white dot is sometimes enhanced with a dramatic upside down black "V". Performers also paint on one or three white dots called urna, at the ends of each eyebrow. Before making up and dressing, dancers make offering to the taksu, the spirit or divine inspiration of the dance; while dressing and painting their faces or removing their mask from it’s storage basket, they may recite a mantra to concentrate on the event, honor the performance, the character, the spirit.
